A tanker and a passenger car collided with each other on the N279 on Sunday evening at Beek en Donk in Brabant. The driver of the car was taken to hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the tanker was unharmed, police said.

The accident happened around 6:20 p.m. After the collision, the tanker caught fire. According to the police, the vehicle was not carrying any hazardous materials and there was no danger of explosion. The fire brigade came to put out the fire.

According to Omroep Brabant, the collision caused major havoc and the road was littered with parts from both vehicles. Police have closed the road in both directions and are investigating the cause of the incident.

The N279 connects Helmond with Den Bosch. Accidents regularly happen on the road, according to the Brabant broadcaster, often with serious consequences.
