Sega has registered a trademark for ‘Sega NFT’ in Japan.
The trademark was filed at the end of December, VGC reports, but was published earlier this week. It is not yet known how Sega plans to use NFTs.
Earlier this month, Sega CEO Haruki Satomi said he was cautious about using NFT as many gamers react negatively to announcements of NFTs in games. “We need to think carefully about how we can reduce those negative elements, how much we can introduce within the Japanese rules and what users will and will not accept.”
More and more major publishers are offering NFTs in their games that players can earn by playing or purchasing via the blockchain. Ubisoft, Konami, Take-Two Interactive and Square Enix, among others, offer the products or say they are interested in implementing them in games.
